Subtle divorce warning signs

On Behalf of | Jun 15, 2018 | High Asset Divorce |

Divorce warning signs are not always as obvious as a public shouting match at a gathering with friends and family. You do not always come home to find your spouse in bed with someone else. These things do happen, but many relationships deteriorate far more slowly, working their way toward divorce as two people drift apart. Often, the warning signs are very subtle.

For instance, perhaps you and your spouse have similar schedules, and you always go to bed at the same time every night. When this stops happening, it can be a red flag. Why aren’t you in sync anymore?

Another warning sign is when your spouse gets too busy to spend any time with you. Maybe he or she started a new business or got a new hobby. It’s fine to be busy, but when one person gets replaced, it’s problematic.

You also need to watch out for family drama. Early on in the relationship, you and your spouse may have kept yourselves out of it and said it wouldn’t change the way you felt, but it doesn’t end. It can take a toll over time.

Finally, one more subtle warning sign is that you have the most fun when your spouse is not there. When the two of you are together, you just sit quietly and ignore each other. When you’re out with friends, you love your life again. You begin to dread going home and wish you could spend even less time with your spouse.

If these warning signs eventually do lead to divorce, it is time to look into all of your legal options. This is especially true for business owners and couples with a high net worth when a lot of assets could be on the line.
