Charlie Sheen can’t afford $55,000 child support payments

Raising a child takes patience, but it also takes money. There are many parents who are left to do it alone, but there also parents who are lucky enough to have the assistance from their child’s other parent, voluntarily or court-ordered. When a judge decides on a child support amount, based on how much the child needs, the parent who was ordered to pay can do very little about this amount. However, that doesn’t stop people from trying to get this amount decreased.

Actor Charlie Sheen has reportedly submitted a request to decrease the amount of his monthly child support payments for his twin boys. He is currently paying $55,000 every month, but because of his financial situation, he allegedly feels a decrease is necessary. This decrease in income came after he sold profit rights for “Two and a Half Men,” which he starred in.

Sheen and the mother of his children both agreed that the amount of child support he paid was to be no less than what he paid for his other children with actress Denise Richards. As it is a provision in their divorce settlement, he will be expected to continue to make these payments until it is changed. It was not reported how much he is requesting to pay monthly.

Parents can request to lower child support for a number of reasons. Just because they make this request doesn’t mean that a judge will agree with them and make changes to the child support order, especially if the child does, in fact, need the money. Any parent who is concerned or has questions about child support, whether it is about increasing or decreasing monthly payments, should contact an attorney.
