Child custody agreements must be carefully considered

Child custody and support orders are huge parts of a parent's life when they aren't with the child's other parent any longer. Whether you come to the agreement through mediation or if the court sets the order, you have to make sure that you understand everything.

We know that you probably don't want to have to deal with a child custody or support order. These orders put limitations on what you can and can't do with your child -- even if that is only dealing with when you will have your child in your custody.

It is imperative that your child custody agreement takes your child's needs into account. You can't formulate the agreement based on what is best for you or your ex. Your child's interests have to be at the heart of the matter.

When you are going over the custody agreement, make sure that it contains information about how special days, including holidays and birthdays, are handled. Make sure that plans are laid for school vacations and other times when child care might be necessary.

You also need to review the information about who is making which decisions for the child. This is important for major decisions, such as what health care the child will get or where the child will go to school.

We understand that you might have some special points that need to be included in the order. We can help you decide how to get those points set. We will also help you to ensure that your rights and your child's needs are respected throughout the process.
